Some things I’ve been told over the years as a mom.
It goes by so fast. What a beautiful family! They’re only little once–the dishes can wait. You’ve got your hands full, don’t you? You must be so proud.
And one of my personal favorites: You’ve got to be kidding me? (Heard at the announcements of our fourth and fifth children.)
Nope, I’m not kidding you. Children are a blessing and I am happy to receive another one, thank you very much. Those were my words of self-talk in such moments. Many years later, my conviction still stands: God created life and it is good. Even when everything around me as a mom is utter chaos and all seems like it’s less-than-good, I know that life is precious and so are my kids.
And so, I want to surround myself with women who value motherhood. I want to hear what they have to say. I want them to point me to God, whose say is of utmost important to me when it comes to who I am as a mom.
Let’s face the reality: my journey of motherhood—your journey of motherhood– is one of many ebbs and flows. Uphill climbs and downhill rides. Sometimes the climbs are overwhelmingly weighty, other times, adventurous and even exhilarating. The downhill rides can be carefree or even costly. Sometimes we experience all of these rides in one single, solitary day . . . or perhaps I should say, hour.
It brings out the best and the worst of us, for sure. And I believe God meant for us to enjoy every season of our motherhood together and to, ultimately, be focused on Him.
Think with me for a moment. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a place to share our stories with one another? A set aside time to grow in our faith and friendships? To get some much-needed wisdom from moms who’ve been where we’ve been—perhaps even climbed the same hill that we’re on today?
This is where Moms On Mission comes in. This is a ministry designed to point you to the bigger picture of your motherhood—no matter what season you find yourself in (because once a mother, always a mother)—and help you enjoy your life as a mom.
Take this as a personal invitation from me and from the team of women who have been praying for you to come join us. Once a month (September through May), an evening to relax over dinner, connect with God and with others. That’s what we’re after here. Practical. Fun. Faith-based. And absolutely encouraging.
We hope to see you there!
